Plasnewydd Primary in Maesteg has been removed from special measures after inspectors from Estyn confirmed that the school has made significant improvements since issues requiring further progress and monitoring were identified in 2018.
Following that inspection, the school developed an action plan outlining how it would improve the quality of teaching and assessment, and raise standards in reading, writing and mathematics at key stage two.
With a revised curriculum designed to meet the needs of all pupils, the action plan also identified how the school would provide appropriate challenges for more able children, strengthen the effectiveness of senior leaders in identifying and addressing shortcomings in standards and provision, and ensure the effectiveness of safeguarding issues.
Following intensive support from Bridgend County Borough Council, the Central South Consortium and local schools, Estyn has confirmed that the action plan has made strong progress, and that a broad base is now in place upon which the school can make further improvements.
A great deal of hard work delivered in partnership has brought about this highly positive result for the school, and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts.
We are continuing to provide Plasnewydd Primary with all the support it needs, and remain committed towards providing local children with the best educational opportunities possible.
