Temporary arrangements for funerals and cremations

As the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak continues, Bridgend County Borough Council has introduced temporary limits on the number of people attending funerals and cremations.

Until further notice, a maximum of 10 close family members will be able to attend a graveside funeral service at a council-maintained cemetery or a cremation at Coychurch Crematorium.

The limits are in line with guidelines which are being introduced across the UK in order to reduce the risk of exposure to the coronavirus.

At Bridgend Register Office, all ceremonies have been cancelled until further notice, but arrangements are in place to enable funeral directors to register a death over the telephone.

Providing funeral and cremation services during the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak is forcing councils throughout the UK to try and strike a balance between respecting the wishes of family and friends, and protecting them from potential exposure.

We will be making every effort to restore services to normal as soon as it is safe to do so, but until then, I hope that people will understand why these measures are necessary, and that you will work with us during this difficult and challenging time.

Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities

The council is monitoring the situation closely and will announce further details as the outbreak develops.
