One thousand free ‘Thank you’ bags are being given out in Maesteg town centre by local businesses to thank customers for shopping local.
Part of a collaboration between Maesteg Business Association and Bridgend County Borough Council, the initiative is part of a wider campaign to encourage people to shop locally and follows on from a recent Independents’ Day video, commissioned by the local authority, aimed at supporting and promoting independent retailers.
Sue Dodge from Anturio Gifts in Talbot Street said: “Maesteg Business Association wants to encourage people to keep shopping locally and the shopping bags are a great way to thank our customers and promote the town centre.
“The independent businesses in Maesteg town centre are a huge part of the local community, our customers aren’t just a number to us, we treat them as friends.”
Tracy Priddy from Maesteg Shoe Repairs in Talbot Street added: “We have been trading in Maesteg for over 20 years and as a local business we feel passionately about encouraging people to shop locally in our town centre.”
Maesteg town centre offers a traditional, friendly shopping experience with a strong sense of community. In addition to a great range of distinctive independent businesses, there are familiar high street names as well, including Peacocks, Argos, Iceland, Poundland and New Look.
We’re delighted to be able to fund this initiative to thank all those who support their local shops and encourage people to continue to do so.
