The Post Office has reassured residents living in Newton that steps are being taken to secure the future of a branch which closed last year.
The branch on New Road closed in December 2020 for reasons beyond the Post Office’s control and the company is now welcoming applications from potential retail partners interested in running the branch on its behalf.
Katimay John, Post Office network provision lead, said: “The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we will continue to work hard to restore services in the area as soon as possible.
“We would of course consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future. However, due to the length of time the branch has been closed, we would need to satisfy ourselves that any new opportunity would be sustainable for both Post Office Ltd and the operator.”
We encourage anyone who is interested in running the Post Office’s Newton branch to apply as soon as possible.
Post offices provide a vital service to local communities both for residents and businesses.
Councillor Stuart Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Communities
The vacancy is currently being offered on the Post Office’s website.
