An updated corporate safeguarding policy has been approved by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet to help ensure children and adults at risk are kept safe from harm.
The Corporate Safeguarding Policy is intended to support all areas of the local authority to ensure effective safeguards are put in place.
The policy reinforces the point that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, but also sets out the specific accountabilities of each Councillor and member of staff, as well as detailing how safeguarding should be reflected in commissioning and contractual arrangements.
This is a policy which takes a preventative and proactive approach to safeguarding, as well as ensuring that effective action is taken to protect people when serious concerns arise.
It cannot be over-emphasised enough that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone in the council and indeed everyone in society.
Councillor Nicole Burnett, Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help
