Urgent call for carers to come forward

Bridgend County Borough Council is calling on people to join the caring profession and help support those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
A number of paid roles are available working for the local authority.
Anyone who has previously worked in social care before or has transferable skills is invited to apply.
Social care is essential, rewarding work which really makes a positive difference to the lives of local people. Depending on the role, you don't always need qualifications or previous work experience in social care to get a job with the council.
What is really important is having the right values, behaviour and attitude to work effectively with people who need care and support. These are unprecedented times that we are living through, many people need our help and support.
We ask all those who are interested in helping to care and support those in need to contact us. Due to the urgent need for carers, we have put in place a fast-tracked application process with a rapid refresher training course for people who have recently finished or served in similar roles a few years ago.

The local authority supports more than 4,000 residents both in care homes across the county borough and in their own home.

Meanwhile, anyone interested in volunteering in various roles in the community is asked to contact the Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO).
People can register their interest first with BAVO and then be matched to a role based on their skills, interests and experience.
Anyone who registers will be able to access free online training such as infection control, safeguarding, health and safety, manual handling, caring values and food hygiene.
The organisation can also undertake DBS checks for people who may be interested in supporting frontline services such as hospitals or children and adult services.
Alternatively BAVO can connect you to local groups to provide support as and when required, and link you to others in your community.
