Waste and recycling collections have now returned to normal in Bridgend county borough following the festive period.
Residents should expect their rubbish and recycling to be picked up by crews from the council’s waste partners Kier on their usual collection days.
Deputy leader and cabinet member for resources Councillor Hywel Williams said: “If you’ve just taken down your real Christmas tree, you can take it along to one of the local community recycling centres between 9am and 4pm seven days a week.
“They can also be dropped off at Waterton Depot between 7.30am and 3pm on weekdays only. Safety measures and signage are in place.
“Many other festive items can be recycled. The main ones you shouldn’t put in your recycling bags are cards that have glitter on them, wrapping paper, black plastic, cellophane wrap, bubble wrap and polystyrene.
“Thank you to Bridgend county borough residents for your continued efforts with recycling.”
If someone in your home is showing coronavirus symptoms, tissues and wipes used to clean surfaces should be double bagged (using plastic bags) and put aside for 72 hours before going into the blue waste bag.
Tissues, kitchen roll, toilet paper or wipes shouldn’t be placed in your recycling bags or public litter bins in order to keep residents and Kier collection crews safe. Please also wipe down the handles of your kerbside containers and bins for the safety of those collecting.
Put your bags and containers out after 7pm on the evening before collection, and before 7am on your collection day. Please do not put them out early as it can cause littering problems.
Residents who put their bags out outside of these times could receive a £100 fixed penalty notice or even prosecution under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Please be careful when placing your bags out for collection to avoid blocking the pavement.
