Wildmill winning the war on waste

Residents in Bridgend’s Wildmill estate are embracing recent improvements that are making it easier for households to recycle.

Bridgend County Borough Council, in collaboration with its recycling partners Kier and the Valleys 2 Coast housing association, have installed extra bins across the estate and moved some of the communal collection points to encourage recycling and deter fly-tipping.

Glanffronnwg was the first part of the estate to get the upgrades earlier this year, followed by Tairfelin, and now the arrangements in Maes-y-Felin and Tremgarth have also been reviewed.

The focus has been on Maes-y-Felin and Tremgarth in recent weeks, where we’ve moved some recycling points to make them more accessible and easier to use. Officers have also been knocking on over 300 doors to meet residents and talk to them about recycling.

Wildmill residents want to recycle, and the majority are doing the right thing for their community. In turn, we want to do everything we can to make Wildmill’s recycling and waste collections run smoothly so we’re working very closely with Kier and V2C to make any necessary improvements.

One issue that many residents are concerned about is the amount of fly tipping on the estate. There have also been some problems with people from outside of the neighbourhood driving into Wildmill and dumping their rubbish there. We’re aware of this and are determined to put a stop to it.
