Community recycling centres
There are currently three community recycling centres in Bridgend County Borough:
- Brynmenyn
- Maesteg
- Tythegston
Please sort recycling before arriving at the community recycling centre to avoid delays. Bags of domestic waste can be put into the general waste skip, but won’t be accepted if they contain any material that can be recycled.
Only two people will be allowed to get out of the car to dispose of waste. Staff cannot help unload or move items from cars due to social distancing requirements, so please only bring waste that one person can carry safely.
As only a few cars will be let in each time, visitors should have no difficulty social distancing while at the sites. Anyone who refuses to do so will be asked to leave immediately, as will anyone who is abusive to staff.
Please note: If you leave waste outside the community recycling centres you could be prosecuted for fly-tipping.
Summer opening hours
Saturday and Sunday: 8.30am - 5pm
Please be aware that gates may shut up to twenty minutes early. This is to accommodate cars that are already queuing on site before recycling centres closes.

Tipping permits
If your vehicle is a van or pick-up truck, register it with a tipping permit before visiting Tythegston or Maesteg community recycling centres. This helps us control the disposal of non-household waste.
Also, you will need a permit if your vehicle has a trailer between 5ft and 6ft 6in (1.5m to 2m). Larger long wheeled based vehicles or trailers bigger than 6ft (2m) cannot use community recycling centres.
Cars, jeeps or MPVs, or trailers under 5ft do not need permits.
Please note: Brynmenyn centre does not allow vans or trailers.
Tipping permits can be obtained free of charge by calling us on 01656 643643 at least 48 hours before you want to visit one of the centres.
You will need to provide the following details:
- your name and address
- a list of items you want to recycle
- the date and centre that you wish to attend
- your vehicle’s registration number, make and model
In some cases we may need to inspect the waste that you want to dispose before granting a permit. This can be done at your home.
We can recycle:
- batteries (car and household)
- bikes
- bric-a-brac
- cans
- cardboard
- cooking oil
- electrical and electronic items
- fridges/freezers
- gas cylinders
- glass bottles and jars
- green/garden waste
- lightbulbs
- motor oil

Asbestos and construction waste
Asbestos is accepted at a specialised skip at the Tythegston centre only with a tipping permit. A charge will apply.
Asbestos is a dangerous material that must be disposed of in the correct way. If it is dropped into other skips at our centres it contaminates other waste.
If you need to dispose of asbestos, please contact Kier to arrange a permit.
Plasterboard, rubble, soil and hard core are classed as construction waste. These are limited to two bags with a maximum weight of 17kg each. Repeat visits are not allowed within the next 30 days. For larger quantities, you will need to book a skip or waste removal company. Trade waste is not accepted.
Plasterboard will only be allowed in the plasterboard skip, and not the general waste skip. Any other material attached to the plasterboard such as tiles will need to be removed before being accepted.
