Cabinet to consider ambitious net zero carbon plans

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet, when it meets this week, will be asked to consider ambitious new plans for how the local authority will meet its net zero carbon commitments.

The plans outlined in a draft Bridgend 2030 – Net Zero Carbon Strategy cement the council’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality following Welsh Government’s declaration of a Climate Emergency in April 2019.

Developed following an in-depth review of data and extensive engagement with internal and external stakeholders, the strategy sets out a series of proposed initiatives in relation to the following themed areas:

  • Mobilisation and management
  • Carbon management
  • Buildings
  • Transport
  • Land use
  • Procurement
  • Waste

Approval will also be sought from Cabinet to carry out a formal public consultation on the strategy. It is proposed that the consultation, if approved, will last 12 weeks and would provide members of the public with an opportunity to voice their opinions and shape the future of the strategy.

Cabinet will meet to discuss the draft Bridgend 2030 – Net Zero Carbon Strategy at 2.30pm on Tuesday 8 March 2022.
