Cabinet to consider Cosy Corner funding offer

The Cabinet of Bridgend County Borough Council will meet next week to consider a funding offer that could help to transform Cosy Corner in Porthcawl and create all-new community facilities at the popular seafront location.

The Welsh European Funding Office and Welsh Government have confirmed an offer of £1m funding which, if accepted by Cabinet on 19 October, will bring the total available for the project to £2.1m.

The site, which is in urgent need of attention following the departure of contractors who worked on the unrelated maritime centre project, could benefit from a range of new facilities.

These include an all-new stone and glass-clad building incorporating premises suitable for retail and start-up enterprises, meeting space for community use, a parade square for the Sea Cadets, an office for the harbour master, changing facilities for users of the nearby marina and more.

If funding allows, the council also has plans in place to instal a children’s play area and create new landscaping, public seating and a canopy structure capable of providing comfortable outdoor shelter from rain and the sun.

In addition to supporting the council’s ongoing plans for the development of the Salt Lake and Esplanade areas, the plans for Cosy Corner are intended to complement other regeneration projects such as the new marina, new sea defences, the recently restored Jennings Building, forthcoming improvements to the eastern breakwater and more.

  • Cabinet will meet to discuss the funding offer at 2.30pm on Tuesday 19 October.
