Cabinet to consider proposals for new state-of-the-art school

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet, when it meets this week, will discuss proposals for providing a state-of-the-art new replacement for Heronsbridge School.

The proposed replacement would see the school relocated from Ewenny Road, Bridgend to Island Farm and increase the number of pupils to 300.

If approved, it is hoped the plans will help meet an unprecedented increase in the number of learners with additional learning needs in the area and result in a reduction in the number of learners sent out of the county for education.

The school would also provide accommodation which meets the needs of the most vulnerable learners and would have an increased number of residential places.

In order to increase the number of pupils, a consultation will be held with the school governing body, staff, parents, pupils and interested parties.

It is then anticipated that the proposal will come into effect at the beginning of the autumn term 2025.

Cabinet will meet to discuss the proposals at 2.30pm on Tuesday 8 March 2022.
