Cabinet to receive report on domestic abuse service

The Cabinet of Bridgend County Borough will meet next week to consider a report on how domestic abuse services can be provided in future.
The report recommends that the council takes on the direct management of support services for people who are experiencing domestic abuse, and invites external organisations to tender for the provision of specialist support.
It follows reviews of the service in 2019-20 which found that changing it could avoid duplication of work between teams, make it more cost-effective and deliver improvements in areas such as confidentiality, efficiency, knowledge, training and communication.
The review also found that such a move could deliver greater flexibility for how services are provided while improving the ways in which qualified staff are deployed and used.
Drop-in advice and guidance, women’s refuge services, supported housing, community-based support and specialist children’s services are all currently provided through the Assia Suite, which is based at the Civic Offices in Angel Street.
The report recommends that once the current contract ends in April 2021, the management and provision of drop-in and community-based support services could be transferred to the council, and existing advice staff provided with an opportunity to move across into the new service.
Cabinet will meet to discuss the report at 2.30pm on Tuesday 20 October.
