Campaign launched to support domestic abuse victim helpline

Bridgend County Borough Council is supporting a campaign which aims to raise awareness of a helpline for those at risk of violence and domestic abuse.

The ‘Home shouldn’t be a place of fear’ campaign, which was launched by the Welsh Government, continues to let those at risk of domestic abuse, sexual violence and coercive control know that help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week via Live Fear Free.

The campaign also aims to encourage people who are concerned that someone they know may be experiencing abuse to contact the helpline.

There are a number of ways to contact the Live Fear Free helpline for help and support – by calling 0808 8010800, live chat, text or email. More information can be found on the Welsh Government website.

Domestic abuse victims can also self-refer to the Assia Domestic Abuse Service via email, online or on the phone. Details can be found on the local authority’s website.

For some, spending more time at home throughout the Covid-19 pandemic will have increased their risk of domestic abuse, sexual violence and coercive control, and even greater isolation.

Restrictions may be easing, but not everyone is free from violence and abuse. More time at home in isolation may have increased an abuser’s power and control, so it’s important that we continue to let people know that free, confidential help is available via Live Fear Free.

We would encourage anyone who is at risk of domestic abuse or anyone who is concerned that someone they know may be experiencing abuse to contact the helpline as soon as possible.
