Celebrating Christmas in Bridgend County Borough

It may only be early November, but plans are in place to celebrate Christmas in Bridgend County Borough in a whole range of festive ways.

With a focus on shopping locally this Christmas, Bridgend County Borough Council is helping to promote businesses via digital apps and a Christmas website where traders can post offers, vouchers, discount codes and more.

This year’s Bridgend town centre Christmas lights switch-on will be broadcast via social media with no public event because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but a special free Santa Trail is being planned for Saturday 27 November.

Visitors to the Santa Trail will walk through various Christmas-themed zones set up throughout the town centre featuring live music from local choirs and bands, a snowstorm, a Santa selfie sleigh, street entertainment and the chance to meet Father Christmas and his reindeers.

Access to this free event will be by ticket only and numbers will be limited, so book early to avoid disappointment - full details will be released on how to obtain tickets later this month.

We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas in our town centres and have been working closely with our partners and EPM Creative to create a memorable experience.

Over the coming weeks, businesses will be invited to showcase their products for free on the Digital Christmas website and our town centre ‘Love Porthcawl, Bridgend and Maesteg’ apps as part of the ‘Spend Christmas in your town centre’ brand, enabling shoppers to browse at their leisure and see what’s on offer locally. While there will be no Christmas lights switch on event in Bridgend town centre this year, people will be able to see them switched on over social media by Santa, with both the mayors for Bridgend County Borough and Bridgend Town Council in attendance.

Furthermore, a special Christmas Santa Trail planned for the end of November has been designed with different zones and limited numbers to take account of Welsh Government coronavirus regulations. Look out for full details soon.
