Coronavirus testing site to shut temporarily due to election

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s testing facility at the Bowls Hall car park of the Bridgend Life Centre will be closed for four days due to the election count taking place there.

The facility will be shut from Thursday 6 May and will reopen on Monday 10 May.

A drive-through mobile testing facility will remain available at the site of the former Revlon/Cosi factory off Oakwood Drive in Maesteg (CF34 8TS). It is open daily between 9am and 5pm.

Walk-through sites will also be available in neighbouring Rhondda Cynon Taf located at The Royal Mint, Llantrisant and Aberdare College car park from 2pm until 8pm and at Treforest University Campus from 8am to 8pm.

Booking for all of these sites is essential and can be done by visiting the Welsh Government website or calling 119. If you have hearing or speech difficulties, you can call 18001119. You can also request a self-test kit to be carried out in your home.

If you have any of the three main symptoms of coronavirus – a high temperature, new continuous cough, or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, you must book a test as soon as possible and self-isolate at home until you get the result. This includes people who have been vaccinated as they may still be able to pass the virus to others.

You can now also book a test if you feel unwell but don’t have one of the three main symptoms. Examples of other symptoms could include a sore throat, headache, nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting.

When you get tested for other symptoms, you don’t have to self-isolate while you wait for your result. You will only have to self-isolate if your test comes back positive.

While the Bowls Hall site is closed, volunteers and residents who are unable to work from home can collect lateral flow self-test kits from the Royal Mint and Aberdare College daily between 8am and 1pm.

They can also be ordered online at Welsh Government’s lateral flow Covid-19 testing webpage.
