Council statement following tragic death of a child in the Broadlands area

Residents of Bridgend County Borough are continuing to support one another following the tragic death of a two year old child in the Broadlands area.

South Wales Police have confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched and that a 31 year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Announcing the launch of the murder investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Davies said: “I understand this incident will have caused concerns in the local community, but I must stress we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this matter at this time.

“The family concerned continue to be supported by dedicated family liaison officers, and I would appeal to people to refrain from speculating on social media at what is a very difficult time for all concerned."

Bridgend County Borough Council is offering advice on where residents can access additional support and help while the investigation is underway.

Council Leader Huw David said: “This tragic news has left local people shocked and saddened, especially as it has occurred so soon after the harrowing death of five-year-old Logan Mwangi.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the little boy at this extremely distressing and traumatic time.

“Communities throughout Bridgend County Borough have been expressing their grief and sympathy even as they continue to support one another.

“If anyone has any information that they think may be relevant or helpful to the police, they can report it by quoting the reference number *282674 and emailing SWP101@south-wales.police.uk, calling 101, sending a private message to them on Facebook or Twitter, or completing an online form.

“Our thoughts remain with all those who have been affected by this very sad and tragic death.”
