Crematorium donates to charity

Seven thousand pounds raised by recycling metals that are collected from cremations at Coychurch Crematorium has been donated to a charity that helps families affected by the death of a baby.

Any recovered metals such as items used in the construction of the coffin and orthopaedic implants including hip and knee joints are recycled with relatives’ consent as the crematorium participates in the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s (ICCM) National Scheme for the Recycling of Metals.

The Coychurch Crematorium Joint Committee has donated its current share of money raised by the scheme to SANDS, a stillbirth and neonatal death charity which aims to improve support for bereaved parents and promote research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.

The crematorium has been involved in the scheme since 2005 and has previously donated thousands to other charities including breast cancer care.
