Day services buildings will close

Day services buildings in Bridgend are to close by the end of this week due to the coronavirus pandemic with arrangements in place to support those adults who attend and who need ongoing care and support.

Around 250 people regularly attend the five day service buildings in the county borough which are run by 100 members of staff.

We are planning to close our day services buildings by Friday due to the coronavirus pandemic but we have put in place arrangements tailored to each individual to support them. Alternative arrangements will see our staff redeployed to ensure the care and support continues for all those who attend our day services.

We understand this is a very uncertain time for residents as we face the unprecedented situation around the rapid escalation of coronavirus.

We want to reassure residents that, in collaboration with our partners, all necessary steps will be taken to support the well-being of our communities as much as possible.

Bridgend County Borough Council has also created an information sharing group with its commissioned providers, issuing guidance to all care homes in the county borough to help protect staff and residents.

The local authority manages four care homes - Bryn y Cae, Ty Ynysawdre, Ty Llwynderw and Ty Cwm Ogwr - while there are 20 independent care homes in the county.

The guidance includes advice on admissions and arrangements for visitors to the homes, which follows advice provided by Public Health Wales.                                             

Councillor David said: “Family contact will be facilitated by telephone, video link and social media wherever possible to keep visitors to the care home to an absolute minimum.

“Unless in an emergency, we encourage family and friends to refrain from visiting care homes to reduce the probability of the spread of the virus.

“We will endeavour to ensure these restrictions are undertaken in the most sympathetic manner and for the shortest possible period and in ongoing consultation with residents and their friends and families.

“We thank everyone for their ongoing support at this challenging time.”
