Family proud to collect Mayor’s award

The family of poppy appeal organiser Andrew Reekie were extremely proud to pick up his Mayor’s Citizenship Award last week from the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, Councillor Pam Davies.

Andrew had organised the annual poppy appeal for the Bridgend branch of the Royal British Legion for many years, helping to raise thousands of pounds, but he sadly died last year.

“Andrew was nominated for his citizenship award thanks to the dedication and hard work he showed in building up a well-oiled fundraising machine over several years.

Sadly, he was too ill to collect his award at the time of the 2017 ceremony, and has since passed away. I was very moved to meet his family and present them with the award in recognition of Andrew’s outstanding achievements.
