Football team completes transfer of playing fields

Carn Rovers FC has taken over responsibility for Cwm Garw Pavilion and Playing Fields in the Garw Valley after agreeing a 35-year lease with Bridgend County Borough Council.

After securing the transfer last week as part of the local authority’s Community Asset Transfer (CAT) programme, Carn Rovers aim to make improvements to the existing pavilion and playing fields.

The project will be funded in partnership with the council under the CAT Fund with funding of £10,883 made available for pavilion improvements as well as £10,000 towards the cost of pitch maintenance equipment.

Carl Jones, a director at Carn Rovers in Blaengarw, said: “As a club, we would like to thank Bridgend County Borough Council for giving us the opportunity to take over the pitch and pavilion.

“It has given us the opportunity to grow the club which now has two senior teams playing in the Bridgend League and four mini teams playing in the Bridgend and Port Talbot League.

“It has been a long process but we are over the moon with the result and we are looking forward to growing the club in the future.”

It is great to see a club based in the Garw Valley completing a Community Asset Transfer which provides them with an opportunity to reach their full potential.

Having been formed in 1997 as a pub team, Carn Rovers are a relatively new club but have gone from strength to strength and growing year on year. We hope this transfer will lead to further success in the future.

The CAT Programme helps organisations and sports clubs such as Carn Rovers to ensure that valuable community assets are protected and developed for future generations.
