Free pop-up business school is coming to Bridgend

A unique, free Pop-Up Business School that gives participants the tools to start their own business without funding or money is visiting Bridgend for the first time in June.

Held at the Bridgend Life Centre from Monday 18 June to Friday 29 June, the Pop-Up Business School is open to anyone wanting to start their own business and is being run in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council and Valleys to Coast Housing Association.

The life-changing free two-week training course provides participants with the support and tools to start a business as well as the confidence to make the first step.

Simon Paine, The Pop-Up Business School, co-founder, said: “The Pop-Up Business school gives local people the tools to change their own world. Our approach is not traditional. We don’t bother with business plans. We don’t believe in loans and grants. We know that puts more people off starting than it helps.

“Thirty per cent of the people that come on our course start their business before the end of the workshop and 27 per cent make their first sale. Anyone in Bridgend who would like to learn new skills, who has a business idea or a fledgling business can book a place on the course and will take home with them practical advice, training and a clear way forward.”

The Pop-Up Business School provides an innovative and fresh approach to learning key skills to help people who are starting and growing their businesses. A number of councils are supporting this new approach which will help complement the great work that is already being carried out by local providers in helping businesses get off the ground.

Donna Baddeley, Chief Executive, Valleys to Coast said: “We are delighted to work with our partners to bring a creative and innovative approach to supporting our customers to explore new ways to bring their ideas to market. Setting up your own business can be scary and lonely – the pop-up business school will help people to overcome these barriers.”

The training schedule includes a mix of practical sessions, one-to-one coaching, workshop sessions and peer support. Workshop topics include starting a business without investment, sales and marketing, building a free website and finding customers.
