Help offered ‘early doors’ to resolve rent arrears

A new service has been launched to help private sector landlords and their tenants who are having difficulties in paying their rent.

Called ‘Early Doors’, the free service offered in partnership by Bridgend County Borough Council and Llamau enables landlords to ask for help on their tenant’s behalf at an early stage, before the situation becomes more serious and they end up further in arrears.

Early Doors support workers will liaise with both the landlord and the tenant to resolve any issues that are causing late or missed payments, with the aim of reaching a mutual repayment agreement to avoid eviction.

There may be many reasons why tenants are having difficulties in paying their rent. Often, they may not know who to turn to for help or may decide it’s easier to try and ignore the problem.

This new service will involve staff working impartially with both the tenant and the landlord to hopefully reach an agreeable solution. The tenant just needs to give permission for the landlord to contact the service on their behalf, should the need arise.
