How you can join council’s Cleaner Streets Team

Bridgend County Borough Council are looking for new people to join the Cleaner Street Teams and have opened up a number of vacancies.

Roles are available in a number of various positions ranging from general cleansing operative to sweeper drivers. Successful applicants will join the team in undertaking routine cleansing at a range of locations and ensuring that high standards of cleansing are maintained across the county borough.

The Cleaner Streets Team, which currently consists of 40 employees, work closely with Kier to ensure that refuse is collected and that streets are kept clean.

During August and the busy Bank Holiday period, the team cleared nearly 98 tonnes of litter waste and fly tipping equating to over 2.5 tonnes handled per operative. The litter waste is then taken to Derwen Recycling Ltd who recently agreed a new contract with the local authority with the aim of improving recycling rates in the county borough.

Derwen aim to create 100 per cent landfill diversion by making use of all material that arrives at their solar-powered plant including recycling material and producing refuse-derived fuel which is sent to power stations and used to generate electricity.

The team also support campaigns such as ‘Love It, Don’t Trash It!’. Launched in 2019, the project is a joint collaboration between the council, Keep Wales Tidy, community councils and Nature Quest which aims to help tackle problems with littering on the town’s streets and beaches.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the most vital teams at Bridgend County Borough Council.

Their hard work ensures that our streets are kept to a high standard of cleanliness and kept free of fly tipping and litter.

Working in the Cleaner Streets Team can be very rewarding and the wide variety of roles are perfect for anybody who loves working outdoors.
