Improvement works to be carried out at Heol Mostyn junction

Road safety improvement works are set to be carried out at the Heol Mostyn junction of the A48 to improve access to the Village Farm Industrial Estate in Pyle, where a new community recycling centre is being built.

Bridgend County Borough Council is in the process of appointing a contractor for the project, with construction work planned to start in March or April. It is anticipated that it will be completed in summer 2021.

The works include resurfacing the carriageway, created a dedicated lane for turning into and out of Heol Mostyn, and a new traffic island and traffic signals.

Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The highways improvements at the junction of the A48 with Heol Mostyn are an important part of the plans for the new community recycling centre and are designed to ease congestion and improve the flow of traffic.

“The new centre will be more modern, easier to access and have more vehicle capacity and bypass lanes to allow better movement on site. There will be 24 bays and on-site queuing capacity for up to 72 cars at a time.”

Bridgend county borough’s recycling centres are currently open daily from 9am to 4pm for essential use only during the alert level four restrictions. Safety measures are in place and all rules on social distancing should be observed.

There are likely to be queues at the council’s existing sites due to limits on the number of people being allowed in at any one time so residents are kindly asked to be patient.

Waste must be separated before arrival and staff are currently unable to help carry items from vehicles.
