More buses confirmed to support local communities

Further bus routes are being introduced in Bridgend County Borough next week as part of a phased return of public transport services.

From Monday 18 May 2020, the following First Cymru services will be available:

  • Service 65 linking Bridgend, Bryncethin, Heol-y-Cyw, Llanharan and Talbot Green.
  • Service 72 linking Bridgend and Blaengarw.
  • Service 73 linking Bridgend, Sarn, Bettws, Llangeinor, Pontycymmer and Blaengarw.
  • Service 76 linking Bridgend, Sarn, Ynysawdre and Bettws.

It follows the recent introduction of a number of early morning services designed to help key workers get to and from work:

  • Service 63 linking Bridgend and Porthcawl.
  • Service 70 linking Bridgend and Cymmer.
  • Service 73 linking Bridgend and Blaengarw.
  • Service 74 linking Bridgend and N
  • Service X2 linking Bridgend and Cardiff.

With stringent cleaning procedures in place and buses operating at a 50 per cent capacity limit to enable on-board social distancing, passengers are being asked to make cashless payments where possible in order to limit the risk of exposure.

While official advice is still to stay at home and avoid all unnecessary travel, the return of these bus services is going to be of huge benefit for members of our local communities who may have an essential journey to make, perhaps to a bank, chemist or food store.

With key workers able to travel for free, I hope that these reinstated services prove to be a major boost, and thanks are due to the drivers for helping to support efforts to provide important services during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities
