New changing rooms at Bridgend Life Centre

Bridgend Life Centre have unveiled new changing rooms for swimmers after the facility underwent a full refurbishment during the lockdown.

The new changing rooms have been given a fresh layout which aim to build public confidence and maintain a safe environment for people of all ages and abilities looking to use the facilities.

Brand new cubicles, shower areas and a new resin floor have also been installed at the centre which hosts the busiest swimming pool in the county borough and supports a broad range of activities for a wide range of people.

As well as the refreshed changing rooms, the pool space now includes an interactive wall for children and hydrogym equipment including hydro cycles and hydro treadmills for therapeutic classes and activities.

The partnership with social enterprise and charity Halo Leisure has seen the development of a successful dementia friendly swimming partnership which won a national award and this has been recognised in the improvements with the colour schemes altered to better support people with dementia.

The project builds on the multi-million pound refurbishment of Bridgend Life Centre started in 2013 and has been supported by Sport Wales as part of its free swimming investment programme, Halo Leisure and Bridgend County Borough Council.

The refurbishment will be a massive boost to Bridgend Life Centre ahead of the summer holidays and shows the efforts made to ensure these facilities are safe environments for people of all ages and abilities.

We hope the people of Bridgend County Borough continue to embrace the national drive to lead healthier, more active lifestyles and visit this wonderful facility once restrictions allow.

Councillor Dhanisha Patel, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations

Simon Gwynne, Halo Partnership Manager said, "The swimming pool reopened its doors on July 10, ahead of the summer holidays.

“Bridgend Life Centre along with other Halo centres in Garw, Maesteg, Ogmore, Pencoed, Pyle and Ynysawdre offer a broad range of opportunities to get more local people more active more often including children and young people, families and adults including the free swimming initiative, free courses and classes and other opportunities supported by the partners and Welsh Governments Summer of Fun programme.

“Visit our website to find out what activities are planned this summer to keep the kids active.

“If you would like to see for yourself the activities on offer at Bridgend Life Centre, then have a week free on us here.”
