New lockdown arrangements for Bridgend County Borough

Bridgend County Borough Council is working to adopt new Welsh Government guidance on lockdown arrangements during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Following the recent announcement from First Minister Mark Drakeford, the lockdown is set to continue in Bridgend County Borough with several minor changes.

While general advice remains that residents should stay at home, avoid all unnecessary contact, exercise locally and minimise the risk of exposure to the virus, people will be able to exercise more than once a day as long as they stay local and do not drive to another location for this purpose.

Recycling centres remain closed for the time being, but plans are under development to arrange a safe reopening, and the council and Kier are currently liaising on what new temporary procedures will be necessary to protect the ongoing health and safety of staff and residents alike.

Discussions are also underway with Awen Cultural Trust and Halo Leisure on how a library service could potentially resume within the county borough, again with an emphasis on maintaining social distancing, non-essential travel requirements and more.

Non-essential businesses remain closed, but Welsh Government has advised that garden centres can reopen as long as they can demonstrate that appropriate and suitable procedures are in place for social distancing. This will be regulated and enforced by the Shared Regulatory Service.

Maintaining the safety and well-being of our residents will remain our top priority as we look to implement the latest regulations from Welsh Government.

While it will take time to set this up properly, this marks the first step towards a careful, safe and sensible restoration of some services, and I would like to thank all residents for their continuing patience and co-operation.
