New ‘Sit and Chat bench’ in Porthcawl park

A ‘Sit and Chat bench’ has been painted in bright colours in Porthcawl’s Griffin Park as a place where people can take a seat if they’re happy to chat to others.
The idea came from local art teacher Jo Keen, and Bridgend County Borough Council was more than happy to agree to it.
Jo, a teacher at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen, said: “As we all know, mental health, loneliness and the lack of connection between people in communities is a huge thing. I’ve seen similar benches created elsewhere so I asked the council if they would be happy for me to paint a bench to make this one a little bit special.”
What a fantastic idea. We welcome anything that helps to bring people closer together so were very happy to let Jo paint the bench. It’s looks brilliant and I hope it is well used.
