Porthcawl flies three Blue Flags

Rest Bay, Trecco Bay and Porthcawl Marina are all flying Blue Flags after meeting high standards of cleanliness and water quality.

No flags were flown last year due to Covid-19 restrictions but the awards have returned this year with beaches and marinas continuing to maintain a high standard of water quality, cleanliness and environmental practices during very challenging circumstances.

A total of 44 Blue Flags have been awarded across Wales this year by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy.

We are very lucky to have some of the best beaches and marinas on our doorstep and will fly our three Blue Flags with pride. The sight of a Blue Flag is a guarantee to visitors that they’ve arrived at a quality destination with the highest environmental standards.

With the weather warming up and another Bank Holiday weekend approaching, I would like to remind everyone who is planning to head to the beach that we all have a responsibility to keep them as clean as possible.

It is not acceptable to expect somebody else to pick up the rubbish that you create. When you’re out, make memories, not mess – if bins are full, take your rubbish home.

Councillor Stuart Baldwin, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities

The Blue Flag programme is a world-renowned eco-label owned by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Full details of all this year’s Blue Flag award winners in Wales can be found at the Keep Wales Tidy website.
