Public books of condolence are available this weekend as Royal Proclamation takes place

Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away, Bridgend County Borough Council has made books of condolence available where the local community can record personal messages and tributes.

Based at the Civic Offices in Angel Street, Bridgend, the books of condolence will be available throughout each day of the period of national mourning, including at weekends, until the day before the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The books are available for people to sign between 10am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am-4pm on Friday.

Anyone who wishes to leave an online message of condolence can do so by visiting the Royal Family website. An area has also been made available at the Civic Offices for displaying floral tributes that local people may wish to make.

On Sunday 11 September, a Royal Proclamation ceremony will take place at 1.30pm outside the Civic Offices where the new monarch, His Majesty King Charles III, will be officially announced by the Mayor, Councillor Martyn Jones.

As a sign of respect, flags at the Civic Offices are being flown at half-mast. They will be raised to mark the proclamation of the accession of a new monarch, then will return to half-mast until the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II has taken place.

Commenting on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Council Leader Huw David:

Throughout her life, Queen Elizabeth II served crown and country with selfless devotion. We will be making further announcements about her funeral arrangements in coming days, and our thoughts and condolences remain with the Royal Family during this sad time

Council Leader Huw David

Councillor Martyn Jones, Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, added:

While her passing is an enormous loss to the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II leaves behind a lasting legacy of strength and inspiration.
