RNLI patrols suspended at local beaches until further notice

RNLI lifeguard patrols at beaches in Bridgend county borough have been suspended until further notice.
Coney Beach, Rest Bay, Pink Bay and Trecco Bay are usually patrolled and monitored by the RNLI’s seasonal beach lifeguarding service.
The RNLI has said with the government telling people to stay at home to keep safe from the spread of coronavirus, it is immediately pausing the roll-out of lifeguard patrols onto beaches.
It means there will be no lifeguard service during the Easter period.
We ask everyone to take extra care and remain vigilant over the coming weeks. Please don’t put your life in danger or anyone else’s in these very challenging times.

The RNLI has issued the following advice if you are at the coast:
- Take care if walking near cliffs
- Check the weather forecast and tide times
- If in trouble in the water, float to live
- In an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard
The patrols are jointly funded by Bridgend County Borough Council, Porthcawl Town Council and Parkdean Resorts, with the RNLI covering additional costs through their national and local fundraising activity.
The RNLI will continue to monitor the situation with the hope of patrolling the beaches for the peak season if the ban on non-essential travel is lifted.
