Schools celebrate A-Level results

The class of 2019 has a lot to celebrate as students across Bridgend County Borough’s schools have once again produced some very good A-Level examination results.
There has been a 6.6 per cent improvement in the proportion of A*-A grades. The county-wide figure has risen up to 26.7 per cent, closing the gap on the all-Wales figure of 27 per cent.
The county borough’s most able learners have also flourished with the proportion of students gaining three A*-A grades increasing by 3.3 per cent from 9.2 per cent up to 12.5 per cent while the number of students gaining three A*-C grades has increased to 57.5 per cent – a 1 per cent rise.
There was an increase to 98.8 per cent of students gaining two or more A levels, while the A*-E success rate rose to 97.4 per cent which compares favourably with the all-Wales figure of 97.6 per cent.
There has also been continued strong performance in the Welsh Baccalaureate with all schools in Bridgend County Borough delivering the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate, providing all students with the skills they will need for higher education and employment.
This year’s results demonstrate continued improving performance, particularly at the higher grades, where our schools, working with some of our most able and talented students, have generated excellent results.
There were some notable individual successes in every school, and I would like to congratulate all pupils on their hard-earned success. I would also like to thank our teachers, support staff, governors and parents for their unwavering dedication and support.
