‘Stay alert’ warning after pupils test positive for Covid-19

Parents and carers of children attending West Park Primary in Porthcawl have been advised to remain alert following a number of positive Covid-19 tests at the school

A letter has been sent to pupils’ homes advising parents and carers to monitor their children for any symptoms of coronavirus, and to book a test immediately if they develop a new, continuous cough, a high temperature or a change to their sense of smell or taste.

As a result of the positive tests, online learning has been arranged for the affected pupils and some year groups are currently isolating.

A new walk-in mobile testing facility has also been established within the local community.

Based at the Awel-Y-Mor Community Centre in Hutchwns Terrace (CF36 5TP), this is available between 9am and 6pm and people are currently able to attend without booking an appointment.

While UK infection rates are falling and many pandemic restrictions have been relaxed, coronavirus has not gone away.

These new cases demonstrate why it is still vitally important for us all to keep our guard up, to wear a mask, follow the rules and to make every effort to minimise the potential for exposure.

Councillor Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration
