Storm Christoph hits the county borough

As Storm Christoph continues to affect the UK, highway crews from Bridgend County Borough Council are continuing to work around the clock to tackle damage caused by high winds and heavy rain.

The workers have been dealing with numerous issues with culverts and some existing drains, not all the responsibility of Bridgend County Borough Council.

At Lluest in the Garw Valley, workers cleared a culvert which had overtopped to cause flooding in an adjacent property, and further blockages were removed near the Green Meadow pub in Llangeinor.

Sandbags were deployed to householders at Vale View and Heol Pantyrawel, and also at Commercial Street in Ogmore Vale where South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

The amount of rainfall moving through the drainage system triggered culvert warnings at Pencoed, while talks are taking place with a landowner after problems were identified with a privately-owned culvert at Pentre Belie.

Issues at Craig Las and Llangeinor Terrace are being currently being investigated, while New Inn Road at Merthyr Mawr was closed due to the river levels around the Dipping Bridge.

Councillor Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Council staff have once again worked around the clock to support communities throughout the county borough, and are continuing to help residents deal with problems caused by Storm Christoph.

“They are monitoring the situation closely, and are ready to respond to any further requests for help and support.”
