Test Trace Protect has successful start in Bridgend County Borough

The Test Trace Protect programme which was launched in Wales at the beginning of June has had a successful start in Bridgend county borough with over 80 contacts traced in the first fortnight.
The Welsh Government strategy aims to slow the spread of Covid-19, protecting the health care system and saving lives.
It works by:
- testing those people who have coronavirus symptoms, asking them to isolate from wider family, friends, co-workers and their community while taking a test and waiting for a result
- tracing those individuals who have been in close contact with the person who has tested positive for coronavirus, requiring them to take precautions and self-isolate (for 14 days)
- providing advice and guidance, particularly where the person who has tested positive or their contacts are vulnerable or at greater risk
- ensuring that if the individual tests negative and the symptoms are not due to coronavirus, individuals can get back to work and their normal routines as soon as possible
The latest figures show that from June 1 to June 14 there were 29 people who tested positive for Covid-19 in Bridgend county borough resulting in 82 contacts, of which 79 were successfully contacted.
We want to thank our residents and businesses for taking part in this vital scheme which will help us break the transmission of coronavirus and enable people to start getting on with their lives, to see their loved ones, and rebuild their livelihoods.
We know that the majority of new Covid-19 cases in Bridgend county borough were linked to care homes or NHS staff and that there were very few cases in the general population.
Test Trace Protect has been created with the sole purpose to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and we urge everyone to fully engage with the process.”

The programme is being delivered through the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service which includes local health boards, Public Health Wales, local authorities and the NHS Wales Informatics Service.
In our region this includes Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Bridgend County Borough Council, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
