The search is on for the council’s next apprenticeship intake

The search is on to find fourteen new apprentices to join Bridgend County Borough Council and kick-start their chosen careers.

This exciting apprenticeship programme will enable candidates to gain valuable on-the-job experience, while also earning a salary and working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

There’s a broad range of apprenticeship positions to apply for across council services, including business administration, marketing, learning and development, civil and structural engineering, ICT, finance, caretaker support, building control, highways, heavy vehicle maintenance repair and social care.

Since the apprenticeship programme was established in 2013, the council has successfully supported 63 apprentices, the majority of whom have since gone on to gain full-time, permanent positions within the local authority covering a cross section of occupations.

Among the council’s many apprentices currently carving out a career for themselves is Jack Edwards, a building control apprentice, who said: “Apprenticeships help you to pick up lots of valuable experience which will be beneficial for my future and help me get a head start in my career!”

Also, 25 year-old Loren Stephens, who joined the council as a Learning and Development Apprentice and has since landed a full-time role in the HR team said: “Undertaking an apprenticeship has helped me to pave the way into a career that I love, whilst allowing me to develop my skills and gain further qualifications.”

Councillor leader Huw David, said: “Our apprenticeship programme has proven to be very successful over recent years, leading many people to subsequently secure full-time employment with us.

“Apprenticeships are a practical route for individuals to develop the skills they need to move into work or progress in their chosen careers. Our apprentices also provide us with a great deal of additional support in carrying out very important duties.”
