Updates on Covid-19 vaccination programme and mobile testing arrangements

More than 197,000 vaccine doses have been distributed to people in Bridgend County Borough with over 93,000 in the area now fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Latest figures from Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board show that 80 per cent of adults (ages 18 to 80 and over) in the region have now been fully vaccinated while almost 90 per cent of adults have had their first dose.

The first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is also now available for 17-year-olds approaching their 18th birthday. If you or your child is set to turn 18 on or before October 31 2021, you/they are entitled to attend any of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s community vaccination centres to have their first vaccine.

Any adults or ‘nearly 18-year-olds’ who have not had the first dose can walk into a Covid-19 Vaccination Centre and have the Pfizer jab there and then. With no prior booking required, the walk-in appointments are available at the majority of community vaccination centres within the region. Anyone who wishes to take advantage of the first dose walk-in appointment will need to bring along a form of ID such as a passport, drivers licence or a utility bill for proof of address.

This includes Ravens Court in Bridgend town centre (CF31 4AP) where the walk-in appointments are available between 9.15am and 4.30pm. Details of other vaccination centres in the region are available on the health board’s website which is updated weekly.

Bookings for second-dose appointments are continuing and will run alongside the walk-in vaccinations as normal. Any adult over the age of 18 who had their first dose more than eight weeks ago and have not been contacted with an appointment for a second dose can call the health board on 01443 281 163, select option three, and the team will get you booked in.

Free testing for Covid-19 is currently available at a mobile testing facility in Nantymoel. Based at Nantymoel Primary School in Gwendoline Street (CF32 7PL), the centre is available between 9am-4pm every day for walk-in appointments. Prior booking is recommended but not required.

This is in addition to the testing unit which remains available at the site of the former Revlon (Cosi) factory at Oakwood Drive in Maesteg (CF34 9TS) where it is operating as a drive-through facility between 9am-6pm. A walk-through testing centre is also available at the Bowls Hall car park in Angel Street, Bridgend (CF31 4AH) between 2pm-8pm.

To use either of the drive-through facilities, you must book an appointment by visiting the Welsh Government website or by calling 119. If you have hearing or speech difficulties, you can call 18001119 to arrange an appointment.

Meanwhile, lateral flow tests for home use can be collected from the Bowls Hall car park facility between 8am-1pm, seven days a week and many pharmacies are also offering free lateral flow self-test kits.

The coronavirus pandemic is not over yet, and we are still seeing cases of people who are testing positive for Covid-19.

With an additional mobile testing centre having now opened in Nantymoel aimed at supporting efforts to combat the virus, and limiting its impact on local people, we urge anyone who feels generally unwell or has symptoms such as a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste to arrange a test immediately and self-isolate at home.
