Views wanted on enforcement scheme

Bridgend County Borough Council wants to know what people think about proposed amendments to its environmental enforcement scheme.

Intended to tackle litter bugs, dog fouling, fly tipping and more, the scheme enables designated enforcement officers to issue fixed on-the-spot penalties in streets, parks, public places and more.

The council has appointed 3GS on an initial 12 month period to act as its enforcement partner and patrol problem spots across the county borough.

The service is also seeking to educate people about the responsible disposal of waste, and help prevent it from becoming a problem.

Now the council wants to amend the scheme so that its scope includes any failure to comply with Public Space Protection Orders as well as the duty of care over household waste. It also wants to offer a discount on the early payment of fixed penalties.

Concerns about litter and dog fouling are two of the most commonly-raised issues that the council has to deal with. The council has not always had sufficient resources to tackle litter and dog fouling, so this new service is a definite step in the right direction.
