Bridgend County Borough Council’s waste partners Kier have been praised for their role in ensuring that waste and recycling was collected efficiently over the festive period.
Over 1,300 tonnes of recycling were collected over the two-week period following Christmas and New Years’ – roughly the weight of 11 adult blue whales.
Compared to previous years, 150 tonnes less refuse was collected showing an increased uptake in the recycling service.
Gareth Barnes, Kier’s business manager, said: “Christmas is our busiest time and I am proud to say that, despite the challenges we have faced this year with Covid-19 and the HGV driver shortage, we have been able to deliver a smooth and successful collection service and I am thankful to our collection crews for their hard work and effort.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the waste collection crews for their incredibly hard work over the festive period to ensure as much waste as possible was collected.
A big thank you also to residents across the county borough for all their efforts in helping us to recycle as much waste as possible during these difficult times.
