Flooding

Information on who you should contact to report flooding. During a major flood event the emergency services are the main responders to flooding.

The strategy collates existing policies, and any new actions or policies introduced due to the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and Flood Risk Regulations 2009.

We have responsibility for regulating ordinary watercourses. Ordinary watercourses include streams, drains, ditches and passages that water flows through but that are not part of the main river network.

The Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment is an overview of flood risk from groundwater, ordinary watercourses, surface water, main rivers and the sea.

The Shoreline Management Plan is a non-statutory policy document advising on how the coastline should change in the long term. It helps planners and regulators to plan for and manage the way that the coast will change.

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) are drainage systems that improve or do not harm the environment. They efficiently and sustainably drain surface water, while minimising pollution and managing the impact on water quality of local water bodies.
