Kenfig Nature Reserve

Kenfig Nature Reserve is one of the UK’s most important wildlife conservation sites.

It is one of Wales' top sand-dune reserves, with plants like wild fen orchids, birds and insects depending on this habitat for their survival.

Glamorgan's largest natural lake, Kenfig Pool, is set on the edge of the reserve with spectacular views across Swansea Bay to the Gower.

Kenfig Nature Reserve is managed by Kenfig Corporation Trust.

The reserve is a favourite refuge for wildfoul all year round.

It is one of the few places in the UK where the bittern can be seen during the winter.

Kenfig National Nature Reserve is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The area is managed to ensure the dunes aren’t overcome by dense grassland and scrub woodland losing important and diverse wildlife.

The reserve is leftover from a huge, rolling dune system that once stretched from the Ogmore estuary to the Gower Peninsular.

Keeper of the Dunes

The 'Keeper of the Dunes' is one of our ‘Nature Keeper’ oak sculptures. They add interest to our beauty spots, and with the accompanying poetry, they capture the imagination of younger visitors by interweaving mythology into the sites.

Their aim is to spark an emotional connection to our green spaces, and so encourage people to visit as well as care more for them.
