Local development plan sustainability appraisal screening and scoping report

The main aim of a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) is to ensure that the plan is, as far as possible, environmentally-friendly.

Local Planning Authorities are required to formally consider whether the LDP will have significant environmental effects and make public this determination. This is done by issuing a Screening Report. Following consultation no changes were made to the draft Screening Report.

The draft SA Scoping Report provides information on the approach that is to be taken to this appraisal. It also sets out baseline information for the LDP area and indicates what impact future Plan proposals may have on this baseline and key sustainability issues.

The council has commissioned consultants Baker Associates to undertake work associated with the Sustainability Appraisal.

The Scoping Report is the first stage in the SA process, and allows relevant bodies an early input into the SA, in order to ensure agreement is reached on the appropriate methodology and approach for the appraisal and assessments. Therefore the information contained within it sets out a general picture of what the key sustainability issues are in the County Borough and how the appraisal will take these into account.
