Highway drainage

There is no statutory duty to drain the highway. However, we do our best as a highway authority to try to make sure the roads and highways across the borough drain properly.

We do this by inspecting, maintaining and cleaning systems such as drains. We also make improvements when we have enough resources.

This helps to provide a safe road surface by reducing flooding and ice.

All drainage systems have a maximum capacity and sometimes this may be exceeded, for example, when there is a large storm. If you need to report a drainage issue, please contact us.
