Bridgend County Borough Council marks National Safeguarding Week

Bridgend County Borough Council is joining other organisations across Wales from 12 – 16 November to mark National Safeguarding Week and raise awareness of the different forms that abuse can take.

The awareness week arrives just a few weeks after the Bridgend Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) was launched to protect Bridgend County Borough’s most vulnerable people.

Throughout National Safeguarding Week the council will be delivering a range of activities for the public to get involved in, with events ranging from drug and alcohol abuse awareness to e-safety ‘sexting’ sessions.

A full list of events held at the Civic Offices in Bridgend can be found below:

Monday 12 November

• Self-harm in children and young people: 10:30am to 11:30am or 2:30pm to 3:30pm
• How to talk to teenagers and promote their health and wellbeing: 11:30am to 12:30pm or 2:30pm to 3:30pm

Tuesday 13 November

• Barnardos / Calan DVS drop in session: 10am to 12pm
• How to spot child sexual exploitation: 10:30am to 11:30am

Wednesday 14 November

• Telecare drop in session: 10am to 12pm
• E-safety ‘sexting’: 10:30am to 12pm
• Domestic violence, anti-social behaviour and hate crime drop in session: 2pm to 4pm

Thursday 15 November

• Child sexual exploitation: 9:30am to 11:30am

Friday 16 November

• Bridgend Carers Centre drop in session: 10am to 2pm
• Doorstep crimes and scams: 10am to 11am
• Drugs and alcohol abuse awareness: 1:30pm to 2:30pm

Specific awareness sessions have also been organised for professionals who would like to find out more about safeguarding.

Having the ability to help local people lead safer lives will always be a key priority for the council and all of our partners who work together in the Bridgend MASH.

As you can see from the public sessions that we will be holding during National Safeguarding Week, safeguarding can take many forms. We all have a role to play to help keep others safe, so it is vital for everyone to be more aware of the different types of harm, abuse and neglect, and understand how to recognise the signs and dangers.
