Council seeks providers for Supported Lodgings scheme

Are you able to help young people develop essential life skills and live a full and independent life?

Bridgend County Borough Council is looking for people who can offer short-term placements to young people aged 16 or over under the supported lodgings scheme.

By welcoming a young person into your home, you can provide emotional support and help them learn the everyday, practical skills they will need for adult life.

All you need is a spare room and a safe, supportive family environment along with the patience to teach them simple life skills such as budgeting, learning to cook and do housework, attending appointments, building confidence, and finding a home.

Being a supported lodgings provider is a great alternative for those who can’t fit fostering around their lifestyle.

You can be in full time employment while being a supported lodgings provider. The most important aspect is that you can give care to a young person and work as a team. The council will support you every step of the way – by providing weekly financial hosting costs and full training for the duration of the placement.

Supported lodgings can offer a crucial stepping-stone for young people who are transitioning from being in the care system to living independently.

The scheme has already made a huge difference in young people’s lives across Bridgend County Borough and we are keen to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in this scheme.

It is such a rewarding opportunity to be a part of and can help young people take the next step into adulthood.

Councillor Jane Gebbie, Cabinet Member for Social Services
