Register office makes it third time lucky for newlyweds

Lee and Kimberley Donne’s wedding plans had been three years in the making when the coronavirus pandemic struck in March.
The couple, who live in Kenfig Hill, were due to be married on 11 April at a hotel in Port Talbot but they had to postpone the ceremony because of the first national lockdown. They rescheduled for October but when their chosen venue was stuck in a local lockdown, they quickly had to find a new location.
Staff at Bridgend Register Office stepped in to help and the pair were married there in front of 20 guests on Friday, 23 October, after just two weeks of planning.
Kimberley said: “The ceremony was amazing. I was quite worried because the restrictions kept changing and with having to wear masks and things, but it was a lovely day.
“The staff at the register office were brilliant. The registrar Lucy went above and beyond for us and did the ceremony, which was lovely. She was a big help – coming into the office especially to do our notice of marriage as we’d had to do it three times because everything kept changing.
“The coronavirus restrictions didn’t spoil our day. We’re used to wearing masks now but were able to take them off to say our vows and it felt quite normal. Our photos were nice because they’re different from what you expect – it’ll be nice to look back and think that we managed to get married during a pandemic!”
I understand that couples spend a long time planning their dream wedding and to have to postpone due to reasons out of their control must have been very stressful.
