Some dwellings are exempt from council tax. If we have classified your dwelling as exempt, then your bill will have a code giving the reason and the period exempt.
Bridgend County Borough Council has approved the introduction of a Council Tax Premium on long term empty properties commencing on 1st April 2023 and on second homes commencing on 1st April 2024.
Under Section 13a 1c of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 (as inserted by Section 76 of the Local Government Act 2003), the Council has the power to reduce liability for Council Tax in relation to individual cases or class(es) of properties that it may determine and where national discounts and exemptions cannot be applied.
If an adult member of the household is diagnosed with a severe mental impairment, then depending on the number of adults in the property, you may qualify for a reduction in your council tax.
