Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of age, background, gender, religion, sexuality or ethnicity.

What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse can take many forms but it's always about having power and control over you.

This is what abuse looks like:

Name-calling, threats and manipulation, blaming you for the abuse or ‘gas-lighting’ you.

Controlling your access to money or resources – taking away or controlling your wages, stopping you working, or putting you in debt.

Doesn’t have to be physical - manipulating or coercing you into doing things you don’t want to do.

When an abuser uses a pattern of behaviour over time to exert power and control. It is a criminal offence.

Not only hitting - restraining you or throwing objects.

Sending abusive texts, demanding access to your devices, tracking you with spyware, or sharing images of you online.

Domestic abuse is never the fault of the person who is experiencing it.

You do not have to wait for an emergency situation to find help.
