Occupational Therapy Service
Occupational Therapy is a practical way to aid recovery and overcome barriers to activities or occupations. These activities could include essential day-to-day duties like self-care, work or leisure. The service can make a real difference by giving people a renewed sense of purpose, opening new horizons, and changing their feelings about the future. It boosts independence and satisfaction in all areas of life.
Approach
Our occupational therapists will consider all of an individual’s needs whether physical, psychological, social or environmental. Then after assessment, our Occupational Therapy service loans out equipment to help people live independently at home or to help carers. Equipment is available for:
- bathing
- dressing
- home safety
- manual handling
- providing care at home
- specialist seating
- toileting
Also we can arrange for small adaptations, and provide advice and funding routes for larger alterations.
Eligible people
Our Occupational Therapists work with adults with a breadth of conditions. Most commonly, these are mental illness, physical disability or learning disabilities. Someone is suitable for equipment if they both:
- have a disability that reduces their ability to function
- are a resident of Bridgend County Borough
Eligible people may be able to get equipment after a Community Occupational Therapist has assessed them. Generally, equipment is given to meet essential needs only, and you may be advised to make your own arrangements for items.
The service is free
No charge is made for any items supplied, and also, equipment maintenance is free. However equipment is given on loan, and it is important to return unused equipment so it can be given to others in need.
